Contentment Posted on August 8th, 2011

I love this picture. It takes me back in time to a simpler life. Not so rushed and hectic. No media, no billboards, etc. Just calm. Quiet sounds, no motors. Oh, take me away. Seems like it would be easy to be content.

But that isn’t reality. Contentment is something to be gained. No matter the time period. No matter your age.

Instead of looking and waiting for the next thing that is going to make us happy, let us look to the Lord for this day. This day that He has given us. We have our responsibilities before us. Let us grab hold of them and make the best of what the Lord has for us today. That next big thing will come…in its time…when the Lord wills. Until then let us seek His face and be content.

Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.   –   1 Tim 6:6

We have been given our assignment: the wise woman is to build her home (Proverbs 14:1a).

As I mentioned in Part One, this means “nurturing and training our family. Building relationships that will endure and thrive in this chaotic world. Making the Lord Jesus Christ the center of your home.” But how does that look……..

Life and Death Posted on December 28th, 2010

So he died for his faith. That is fine,
More than most of us do.
But stay, can you add to that line

That he lived for it, too?
In death he bore witness at last
As a martyr to truth.
Did his life do the same in the past
From the days of his youth?

It is easy to die. Men have died
For a wish or a whim-
From bravado or passion or pride.
Was it harder for him?

But to live: every day to live out
All the truth that he dreamt,
While his friends met his conduct with doubt,
And the world with contempt.

Was it thus that he plodded ahead,
Never turning aside?
Then we’ll talk of the life that he led-
Never mind how he died.

For His glory and honor Posted on December 27th, 2010

Be strong and courageous!

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

I love these verses.  They are a reminder to me that no matter what comes in life the Lord is with us to direct and strengthen us. And it is not about me!! It is about His glory and honor.

Delight in the Future Posted on November 10th, 2010

Preparing for spring.

Our garden didn’t turn out quite like we thought it would this year. Every plant in the garden grew faster and bigger than ever before, we were distracted by other priorities and it became our own little “jungle”. But now we have more time to tend to it and prepare it for the coming winter.

Whenever I am out in the garden it makes me think about life and there always seems to be lessons to learn from it. This morning in particular I was mostly asking questions of myself about my role as a wife and mother. Am I being distracted by things that are not really a priority? What am I planting and why? How am I  developing the soil for these precious plants?

Breezy spent some time yesterday planting more tulip bulbs so that our spring will have more color and also be more delightful. It is a reminder to me that our work is not always measured by what we see right now, but rather in the hope and delight for the future.

The Family Treasure Coloring Book

Created by Breezy & Emily Rose Brookshire
Published by Noble Rose Press

Over the past several months the girls have been hard at work creating this beautiful coloring book that features scenes of family life. My husband and I have had such joy to see our daughters working together to bring a product that will be a blessing to many families.

This 48-page coloring book features events in the life of the Christian family. From a father teaching his sons how to mend a fence, to a family picking apples in the orchard, to a mother reading aloud to her children, “The Family Treasure” will inspire children and their families in the lost arts of play, dominion work, and family discipleship.

There are 48 pages of these precious illustrations. You could also use these scenes as story starters with your home education.

The girls are having an introductory sale along with the paper dolls on their website Noble Rose Press. You can also read Breezy and Emily Rose’s posts on their announcement of this labor of love.

My heart is singing!
