I am not a mess . . . Posted on August 29th, 2010
. . . and this is unusual!
Every fall, every August, September and October of my life I have suffered with hayfever. And I am usually a mess.
This year, I am not a mess and it is not normal for me.
The only thing different this year is that I have gone “gluten-free” with my diet.
Yes, that is all that I have done. No medications, just no gluten.
Am I completely healed? No, I still sneeze occasionally and blow my nose. But for someone with severe hayfever symptoms the key word here is occasionally.
So we are doing a happy dance in our home and Kleenex brand can just keep a bigger supply of tissues this year.
Squeals!

Hello Robin!
My name is Yvonne and I live in the UK. My goodness I am amazed at the fact that you’ve gone gluten free and suffer no hay-fever symptoms. Is this something you have come across yourself? I am very happy for you. I am fortunate in that I am not a sufferer. I occasionally get a small bout of it when the pollen count is high around these parts (I live in the countryside) but I have a dear friend who suffers from it very badly every spring and summer. I would like to share this information with her.
Blessings!

Yvonne,
When I first started reading about gluten I came across some information that said it could trigger allergies and so I determined that I would give it a go along with my daughter to see if I noticed any difference. Praise the Lord that I have. I had never heard of this before and I don’t know that there is any “scientific evidence” that it is related, but to me it is very real.
I am really loving the idea of you living in the countryside in the UK. It sounds lovely.
And thank you for your kind words!
Blessings!

Wow, very interesting, that is something for my family to think about… I’ve been considering going gluten-free for quite some time, but just haven’t quite been able to make the leap.
Have fun with that happy dancing!

Hi! I have been gluten free for two years & have been off all my maintenance asthma/allergy medications for about a year and half. The only time I need my asthma stuff is when I get sick (flu, bad cold, or sinus infection)… I still have some allergy symptoms from time to time (itchy eyes, stuffiness, some tight chest), but not nearly as bad. My theory is that when your body is so stressed, in our cases not handling gluten well, it can’t handle another stress, such as seasonal allergies. Therefore, everything seems worse when new stresses are added. But, with out the gluten, our body is able to handle the other stuff better. Does that make sense? I’m glad things are going so well for all of you… and I’m happy to be saving money on medications, and how terrible I felt using the inhalers! Thanks for the reminder, I have my days of feeling sorry for myself as I watch other family & friends eat glutenous foods!

Mrs. Brookshire,
I was just reading last night how removing gluten from your diet can reduce or eliminate allergy symptoms! I am very intrigued now after reading your testimony!

Nikki,
I am still amazed at how I have handled hay-fever season this year. I don’t think I could ever go back to eating gluten now!
